Armed Forces will fight deforestation in MT

The Armed Forces will participate in the fight against illegal deforestation in Mato Grosso, in the step of blocking the sale of timber illegally exploited in the state. The information is the superintendent of the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA), Ramiro Martins Costa. From today, the body mounts operational strategy.

The most critical region is located in the medial north near the city of Sinop. Until yesterday, the Deter - deforestation detection system in real time used by INPE - 120 polygons showed large-scale deforestation.

Besides the 16 areas seized by the State Secretariat of Environment (SEMA), IBAMA impounded 50 more, totaling 19,455.24 acres. Up to 18 hours from today, only in the region of Sinop, IBAMA had a sawmill embargoed, seized a boat, seven trucks, eight chainsaws, 40 heavy equipment (mats, large tractors, harvesters) and 3020.07 meters cubic wood in logs.

Two helicopters and a twin-engine plane flying over the region are between 6 hours and 18 hours throughout the week. The plane is equipped with monitoring by specialist officers in georeferencing.
